Turtle Nest Bar, Hampton Inn, Jekyll Island

We arrived here very tired and fed up after a really rubbish travel day.

We had a basic breakfast at the hotel in Baton Rouge, pics were too difficult due to the ever watchful lady in the club lounge who hovered a lot

Then I had possibly the most disgusting pulled pork po’boy at New Orleans airport

Horrible.

NOLA airport continue to be very lacking in decent food options.

The ensuing road trip through torrential rain necessitated emergency snackage

A twix was also consumed but too quick for a pic

Being so far behind schedule and stuck in rain and roadworks we hit Jacksonville at rush hour and abandoned our Bearded Pig plans. No poutine was worth more delay

Finally we arrived at Jekyll and poor Andy couldn’t face another drive out for food so we hot footed to the bar for the remaining 30 minutes of food service.

In the end it was just what we needed.

Citron Lemonade for me

We shared the beer cheese pretzel bites. Lush.

Andy had a burger and I had the kids size chicken tenders

Sometimes you just need simple food as fuel. And this was all just perfect

Hampton Inn breakfast

Included in the price and a decent offer.

Andy had scrambled eggs and sausages with toast.

I made my own cinnamon waffles and was v pleased with the result

I didn’t partake of the smoothies
though

There was cereal and fruit on offer too

We thought this was a pretty good set up

Fannies on the Beach, Tybee Island

We arrived at 1245. It was very busy so we sat at the bar. This is always an advantage of an adults only trip

Straight into the cocktails and I had a Fannie slapper

Such an extensive menu but we were mindful we had dinner booked later so tried to go light.

I had the tropical salad. It was delicious

Andy had the shrimp.

I then spent the rest of the journey getting the hot sauce off his t shirt

What a quirky, glorious place this is. Perfect seaside place. Loved it.

What a dire travel day.

If your liver can only take 3 days in NOLA how will I cope with 13?!

I love the look of the bars you’ve been to - why is it that a laminated menu makes me feel a bit ill in the U.K. but I find it perfectly acceptable in a seaside town in FL?!

Breakfast looked great!

Having a great catch up on Louisiana and Georgia, obviously following along on insta so nice to get all the details too! I am starving now and thankfully I’m going out for lunch today but I already know it won’t be quite as appealing as all the lovely things you have been sampling along the way-love the cocktail count photos too! Sounds like you had a great birthday cheers to more cocktails

Yep, that is a long stay, you best get in training

It was a rubbish day. The rain was that biblical level stuff and it just did not stop the entire 4 hour drive.

Ha ha that’s true about those menus and the laminate table covers !

Our dinner in Savannah last night just leapfrogged into poll position. It was outstanding.

Thank you ! Struggling to post consistently on insta, lots of places won’t allow uploads and kicks them out. Very frustrating. Will have to binge the pics when we get to Florida

The Black Marlin, Palmetto Bay

A really busy place at the other end of the island to our hotel but well worth the $30 round trip in taxi fares.

We had a waterfront table

A baby sparkling Rose for me

It was one of those menus that was humugous in physical size like a Daily Telegraph so This is some of it ..

We had the fried mozzarella and poutine to start

Well theses weren’t huge at all
Massive. We were expecting mozzarella fingers not slabs and the potato wedges were like half a spud.

All very yummy but was going to make the next course a challenge

I went for chicken pasta with spinach, mushroom and tomato

Andy had cod and chips

Really really tasty food.

It’s a beach style bar outside

But quite smart inside

The bill

We had a great time here.

Plantation Cafe

A small place that was packed with locals so we sat at their counter rather than wait for a table

Another huge menu but I did find a takeaway version so check back when I upload that

I had a chilli cheese puff .. a soufflé with cheese and green peppers.

When it came out I couldn’t remember what I had ordered and was a bit perplexed until I tasted it. It was really light and quite cheesy.

Massive portion of hashbrowns. The little pot of hot cinnamon apples was scrummy

Andy had a ham and bacon platter.

Very nice start to the day
