Panera Bread, I Drive outlets

A quick shared sandwich on a shopping stop.

Turkey, bacon, cheese and a thousand island type sauce.

Always a calm place just beyond the food court busyness

Manny’s Chop House, W Irlo Bronson

We met up with friends and made the most of 241 happy hour 😁

Moscow mules for me

I wasn’t overly keen on the salad. I do wish they would ask before they mix in the mayo plus they brought a huge washing up size steel bowl of it when only two people were going to eat it. Very wasteful

I had the filet and loaded potato

Nice but not as good as other steakhouses

Andy has the prime rib

Ditto. Nice but very fatty.

Key lime pie for dessert. This was very nice

This was the bill for the 4 of us

Pretty reasonable we thought
Service was so so. It was busy which meant there long gaps and it felt we were waiting quite a bit .

Overall. We would stick with Longhorns or Outback in preference to here.

Ellenton and Anna Maria Island

We had made our way to Ellenton by lunchtime.
A quick stop at the food court

Chinese for me - sesame chicken and Orange chicken

Gyro for Andy

He said not as good as the one in New Orleans.

It would be fair to say the day went downhill rapidly. Our Airbnb was a disaster. We headed out to buy cleaning products ( big clue there) and after I had a meltdown in Publix, we decided we would move tomorrow and grab a bite to eat out. By now it was raining on and off and all the local places looked full or a bit ropey. In some cases both !

The only address I had in my phone was Rod and Reel on AMI so we set off. Well what a dumb thing to do. It started to lash down and we could barely see. By now we were so fed up and hungry we stuck it out and braved the pier walk. Place was packed and we got a table in the middle where everyone bumped into us passing by.

It was all very fraught and going horribly wrong. A table by the window came free so we moved. We did see some dolphins. This cheered us up.
Not the view I had planned tho ...

A proper storm had started now. Thunder, lightning, 4 horsemen of the apocalypse etc etc . Our meal was really slow to come out and we noticed all the locals had left before ours arrived - they clearly had sense.

I had a burger. I was so upset by now I didn’t even take a pic.
Andy had shrimp

We then battled the rain and wind to get back to the car. I was impressed I didn’t slip off the walkway

The drive back was terrifying. There are no street lights, it was torrential rain and blowing a proper gale. We were exhausted with the stress of it all .
We returned to the house of horrors to sit out Storm Nestor and find somewhere else to stay.

Horrible evening

I'm sorry to read you've had a bit of nightmare. Not on Instagram but visions of you surrounded by cockroaches, cleaning products and dealing with the consequences aren't good.

On the plus side the mule and the loaded jacket potato sounds like heaven right now. There's something just so holiday about having the loaded jacket with a steak and you know I love a mule, Moscow or Montana I'm happy either way.

I hope things have turned the corner on the accommodation front and you've moved somewhere nicer and things are looking up for you. I don't like to think of you feeling so sad, sending happy thoughts for you lovely lady.

Speggtacular, Clearwater

After a dreadful night and going back and forth with Airbnb with photos and videos of the house we set off for Clearwater once the rain had subsided.

We didn’t even have a coffee as we didn’t want to touch anything

We pitched up at a Perkins about 4 miles from the hotel.

Wouldn’t you know it. As soon as we ordered the whole street lost power It was so windy they went out to take down the big flag

And the traffic lights went too so the police arrived

They were sure the generator would come back on but it didn’t so after numerous coffees and free fruit, we gave up . They did give us vouchers for a free breakfast . It had got so hot so quickly without the air conditioning too

Not the breakfast we anticipated ..

As we reached Clearwater it was raining again.

Yeah welcome.

We were both so fed up by now and carried on driving to see if we could spot a cafe. Hurrah for Speggtacular. It had been eggceedingly delicious when we tried the one in Largo

We were eggcited to be finally eating !

I went for the corned beef hash and Andy had a skillet.
I also had a cosmopolitan. Because why not

It was eggcellent and we were eggstatic that no more bad luck had befallen us for at least 45 minutes.

It was no Yolk folks. Things had been pretty grim up till now

Bill was eggcepptable 😂

Thanks Abby that’s very kind x

It was bad. really bad. I cried in Publix as it was all so awful.
And with the rain and storms it was set to be a horrible end to such a nice holiday.
But we got a good deal on a fab hotel in Clearwater so all good now. It wouldn’t be a holiday without some unplanned adventure

Oh no, the power outage in Perkins. Still a corned beef hash and a Cosmo sounds yummy.

Sorry to hear about the tears in Publix I know it's not Walmart but...too soon for jokes? I hope not. Have a good last few days. I'm glad you got sorted with a hotel.

Xx

Good Grief Amanda! This is meant to be a holiday! I demand you have fun right now!

It sounds absolutely dire though. No wonder you moved out of the Airbnb (I’m not on Insta but my DDs are so if you wouldn’t mind posting your ‘handle’ or whatever the heck it’s called I will check it out, I’m feeling very very sorry for you :-( )

I remember a couple of such evil weather events in FL it does quite take the shine off things.

Onwards and upwards I hope.
The price of your recent Cosmo was... eggsellent ;-)

Glad you are getting back on track, what a terrible series of events and I'm sorry it led to a mini melt down in Publix ☹️ Glad the cocktails are going down and the egg jokes are making a reappearance, things are on the up!
