DAY ONE
We were supposed to kick start the trip with a 7.30am breakfast at Kona, I changed this to 9.30am after our late arrival just in case we needed to sleep late. As this was one of our extra days, we didn’t have park tickets so we’d come up with a plan to attempt to visit every resort in one day. Unfortunately, (that word again!), the Skyliner accident was the night before and we woke up to the news that it wasn’t running, so that put the kibosh on our plan, we decided to see how many we could do regardless. #1 All-Star Sports with its retro décor #2 Polynesian We valeted parked here so we could head off on our resort adventures afterwards, it’s $33 dollars for the day and we tip $2 when we drop the car off and $5 when we collect it. KONA CAFÉ You can view the menu here: disneyworld.disney.go/en...na-cafe/menus/ Of course, I had to have some Liliko’I Juice, aka POG, aka Jungle Juice. This is a ‘Orange, Passion Fruit, and Guava’ blend. I love this and cannot find anything over here that even comes close, probably because of the sugar tax! Nik had a chocolate milk. We were paying for this meal OOP and I was surprised that our drinks were not refillable. I had been planning for months that I was going to have the Macademia Pancakes here, but then I was thrown a curveball by the seasonal Pumpkin Pancakes on offer. I had to have them. Pumpkin Pancakes topped with Maple Pumpkin Butter, Spiced Pecans, and Candied Pumpkin. Choice of Bacon, Ham, Spiced Ham, or Sausage These were disappointing, although they looked amazing! The ones on the buffet at The Wave last year were so much better. The pumpkin flavour was very mild and they were a bit stingy with the pumpkin butter, which was where most of the flavour seemed to be. The sausages were great, not your usual greasy thin Disney sausage, they were chunky and tasty. They were pork, and I think the skinny ones usually served are turkey. Nik toyed with having the Tonga Toast but instead stayed in his comfort zone and ordered: Ham and Cheese Omelet with Home-fried Potatoes He says this was ‘very delicious’ haha. They were very generous with the cheese which is always a good thing. The breakfast potatoes were fantastic, they had a nice crisp to them. We had added a side of toast, it was toast, what more can you say. Interestingly we weren’t charged for this. We had breakfast at ‘Ohana a few years ago and weren’t big fans, at that time they were serving the cubed potatoes with the platter but I believe it’s the wedges again now, I’d go to 'Ohana for those, the pork sausages and the POG juice alone in future! Breakfast came to $53.87 and we left a $11 tip. I am going to start a tally of our costs once we go live with DxDP. Kona had a nice atmosphere and although it was very busy, it wasn't particularly loud. The food was sound. But I wouldn't recommend it OOP or use a TS credit there unless on DxDP. You never expect a cheap breakfast in Disney but for not much $$s more we could have gone to 'Ohana, had unlimited food and drinks and met the characters. When we were leaving the Poly I had a look at what was on offer at Kona Island. They had several very yummy looking breakfast options for a snack credit. I was drooling over the Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant, the Seasonal Fruit Danish and the Mocha Kona Muffin. I really wished we had DP at this point as I’d have loved to have splashed some snack credits. We walked to our next resort, this was so peaceful and it was hard to believe we were in WDW and it was a weekend. #3 Grand Floridian And then book the boat to MK to head towards #4 Fort Wilderness Then another boat to Wilderness Lodge for lunch! |

It was the best McDonalds ever Thank you for reading!
I think it was the continued drama that stopped me from crying because at that point I just expected things to go wrong! Thankfully it's all plain sailing from here. Thank you for reading! I have no idea where we made a wrong turn as we got as close as passing Downtown Orlando before it all went Pete Tong! We ended up circling around Winter Garden for a long while, they have a Vineland Road and when I saw that I thought we had cracked it Thank you for reading! That's exactly how the car journey went, every so often we'd pass somewhere and say 'oh there's XXX' but I kept thinking 'nope, got to eat onsite, I promised for my TR'. Looking back it was comical trying to read the map but my goodness, never again. Nik has said he is willing to splurge on sat nav hire, unfortunately for him I'm not that loose with the purse strings. Thank you for reading! Ahaha Sam that made me laugh. Fingers crossed you have a smoother travel day than I did. Thank you for reading! I'll keep you updated on how the jetlag goes. I went to bed at a 'normal' time last night but slept late today (day off), hopefully I'll sleep okay tonight. I did feel like I had been hit by a bus when I got up yesterday morning but was fine after a shower. Not a fan of Sanford but we are already booked to fly their next year so hopefully that will be better! Thank you for reading! |

Look at the bright side: you could've run out of petrol. Another thing that has neeeeever happened to us in FL. The history books know nothing of it.
FYI: you can usually buy your own local sat nav for the same price or less than what the rental agencies charge for a week. I bought one in 2012 for $120 or so with lifetime map upgrades and still use it. It's not as fast as it used to be and now can only hold part of the US (maps are much bigger now) but it still works. I'm looking forward to the rest! |

Thank you for the sat nav tip! OH's birthday is coming up so that is idea for his pressie.
I'd definitely recommend grabbing something at Kona Island, or even the QS, if you're OOP don't bother with Kona. I don't think you can get to Wilderness Lodge via TTC but you can also get the boat there from the Contemporary. |

What a lovely start to your holiday but doing a resort tour. Shame about the pumpkin pancakes at Kona. I still crave after a pumpkin milkshake at Sci-fi diner and have never found one that comes close😣 🎃

That was some travel day but at least you got there eventually and day one was better. The main arguments I had with DH on holiday was my poor navigation - not my fault that Sat Nav has old maps and my phone lost the signal when I tried to use google maps !

It was awful, but you are right, we did get there in the end and none of it mattered. I am glad I didn't have a concrete plan for arrival day as I'd have been really disappointed if it had been messed up.
Thank you for reading. |

Did you happen to see if Kona Island still have the chocolate bacon things? I'm intrigued but according to DFB you can't get them as a snack.
