Hmm, interesting about Cracker Barrel, that’s another one we are a bit indifferent about too. Certainly not up there with Bob !

Love the homemade dinner at home. Eating by the pool is a proper holiday moment.
Is the Blaze pizza really good? I’m not a big pizza fan but everyone seems to rave over it ?

That’s a shame about Perkins not being a big success... that smoked sausage is definitely an acquired taste. They do have the best coffee tho!

Oh what a fab deal the Olive Garden menu is. So much food for that price. Brilliant. Those breadsticks .. 😋 And yay for dessert.

Wawa sounds amazing value too. How have I never tried this place on our road trips ... ditto Arby’s. Often seen it on tv so interested in your review.

Well done you soldiering on with the Hawaiian punch😃 Got to be done..

We do love an American breakfast, I think Denny's was my favourite this year.

I'm not used to making a mess like that... I just couldn't throw the shells away - its seems wrong. Neil fairly enjoyed that beer

Even better with 20% off
We couldn't believe when we walked into Perkins and it was deserted! Another family came in afterwards, but it was still quiet considering it's location. We had the potato skins at Texas in a day or two, I imagine the Logans ones are just as nice.

Miami is huge and a faff isn’t it.. you feel like you’ve walked halfway to Orlando 🤦
Hey Amanda, thank you for ploughing through all of the days so far Yes, the lasagne wasn't the best - I won't be having that again! We are loving our lounge passes, it's nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the airport before a flight. The plane food was really good this time, we were most impressed.

Oh, Miami! It's the only airport we've connected through where we've had to actually queue at a check in desk to re-check our bags for the last flight. It's normally a case of pick it up and then straight onto a waiting conveyor belt. It's not well signposted either, we were back and forth trying to figure out where to go

The Amorettes goodies looked lovely and the chicken dinner at home .. always a winner.

Bob Evans looks just amazing. Always delicious and reliable. Unlike Applebee’s. What a shame the service was a let down. We’ve dropped it off our list the last couple of trips.

Oh my word Kekes waffles look fabulous. I’m drooling!
Good to see Chilis was better ( and lol at the pic of the girls ), the fajitas looked fab. Did you take leftovers to go ?
I was so looking forward to the Polite Pig, and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. The cakes made up for it though, they were lovely. Haha, winner winner chicken dinner

Bob never lets us down - the food and service are always excellent. Ah, I'm so frustrated with Applebees … we've had some great meals there as well as so-so ones - you just never know what you'll get on the day.

Keke's was a hit. The waffles were delicious, and the pancakes we saw going to other tables looked fab too - I'd maybe try them next time. We definitely enjoyed Chili's this time around, but I'm not sure it would ever make the top of the list. I didn't take any leftovers back to the villa, because we were eating out every night so they would have been wasted.

Cracker Barrel - off the list! We just haven't been impressed the two times we've tried it. Not a patch on Bob.

You're right... dinner by the pool does feel like a real holiday moment. Probably because we don't have a pool at home lol . Yes, the pizza at Blaze was really tasty, and I liked the very thin crust. To be honest, I'm not really a fan of places you have to choose your toppings, (e.g. Subway) it stresses me out and Blaze is like that which is why ours was probably a little bare. I'm a bit fickle with pizza - we ate at Sweet Tomatoes later on and they had pizza with a thick base and I liked that as well .

We didn't rank our coffee's in order this year, but Perkins would definitely be up there. If I had to pick a favourite coffee this year I think it would be Keke's. The food at Perkins was good enough, it was just Neil being fussy about the smoked sausage.

You're right, the early dinner menu at Olive Garden is a great deal. Believe it or not we didn't eat many breadsticks this visit, just one each I think... letting the side down . It was nice to have a dessert for a change. We really struggled with the portions sizes this year.

Oh you must have a wander around a Wawa shop. It's fab... we loved making up our coffees and choosing our donuts to eat in the car - simple pleasures. We were pleasantly surprised by Arby's. The one we went to was run down but there are newer ones around the US192 - there's one in Celebration I think. The food was very good though - obviously just a McDonalds type place but with roast beef rather than burgers.

I was right fed up of the Hawaiian Punch by the end of our trip... and there was still half a carton left. We used to go through 2 or 3 of these when the girls came along, so we know it wasn't me drinking it all then!

Thanks for reading Amanda, I'm looking forward to getting around to reading your recent trippies as well. I have loads to catch up on

Day 12 - Tuesday 12th November - Sweet Tomatoes & Texas Roadhouse

We woke early this morning, and ate 2 of our doughnuts each for breakfast while we sat by the pool watching the sunrise. There’s nothing like a healthy start to the day! I had my Dutch Apple Pie Doughnut and my Chocolate Cake one. The Dutch Apple Pie was my favourite, the toffee icing on the top was lovely. Neil had his Jam Filled and Chocolate Iced doughnuts, all washed down with tea for Neil and coffee for me.

We spent the morning at Disney Springs after spending a bit of time in the pool and spa at the villa. On the way home from Disney Springs we stopped by another new restaurant for us, Sweet Tomatoes at Rolling Oaks. Neil isn’t a fan of buffet’s, he has a thing about how long the food has been sitting out for, but we just wanted a light lunch so he agreed to give it a go.

We weren’t sure what to expect, so when we walked in the door and the salad bar was right in front of us we were a bit surprised and weren’t sure what to do. There were plates at the end so we started filling them up with our salad items. Once you get to the end of the salad bar, you get cups for both hot and cold drinks (if you want), and the check out is there at the end, where you pay the set buffet price then go into the restaurant to find a table. Once inside, you can choose anything from the hot items. There are breads, pizza, baked potatoes, soups, pastas and dessert and drinks stations. It all looked fresh and everything we tried was nice.

I had my salad first, followed by Chicken Pot Pie Stew, which was like a cream of chicken soup with vegetables in it. I had some bread with this as well. I followed this up with a slice of pizza, then coffee and a brownie and then ice-cream. I had a tropical juice to drink which tasted like Fanta. So much for a light lunch!

Neil had some pizza with his salad and some mac & cheese. He didn’t enjoy the mac & cheese as it tasted a bit “plastic” - he thought it was Kraft. He followed up with more pizza. The pizza here was really good, it had a nice, doughy base. He then had some of the same chicken soup that I had with sour dough bread - he really enjoyed the bread, said it was lovely, and finished off with coffee and a brownie and ice cream. We paid $28.34 for our lunch.

Nice and full from our buffet lunch, we stopped off at Walmart for yet another bottle of wine - $8.01.

Later on, we headed out to yet another new restaurant for us. I can’t believe we’ve been visiting here for so many years and there are still loads of restaurants that we haven’t tried yet. Tonight’s choice was Texas Roadhouse on the US192 opposite Rolling Oaks. It was very busy in the foyer when we arrived, but being a party of only 2, we didn’t have long to wait, maybe a maximum of 10 minutes, could have been a bit less. There were other, larger parties waiting when we arrived and they were still waiting when we were seated. We ordered drinks while we looked at the menu. It was my turn to drive, so I had blue moon lemonade and Neil had Angry Orchard cider.

We had a coupon for a free starter, but because Texas Roadhouse don’t have Wifi I couldn’t get the coupon code to open, and even though the server could see that I had the email, she couldn’t accept it without the code, which was a little bit annoying. We ordered the Tater Skins (Plate of 8 baked potato skins topped with melted cheddar cheese and bacon bits, seved with sour cream for dipping) anyway, and they came out along with some bread rolls which had a lovely cinnamon taste. We had an extra phone with us this trip, which had a Three sim card in it so we could get internet out and about, so once I remembered that we had it with us, I looked up the coupon code and gave it to our server. I was determined to get our free starter one way or another! They were worth it too, the Tater Skins were so nice, really tasty.

For mains, Neil ordered the 10oz T. Worth Ribeye, which came with 2 sides but he only wanted one, the steak fries. He said this steak was tasty, but a little tougher than some of the other steaks he’s had recently.

I had the half slab of Fall-Off-The-Bone Ribs - and the meat really did fall off of the bone - I couldn’t pick them up as the meat just came away. They were delicious and I had them with fries and vegetables as my sides. I actually asked for the regular fries as opposed to the steak fries that Neil had ordered, but they look and tasted the same so I think they gave me the steak fries. They were very nice anyway, so no complaints there. We really enjoyed our meal here, the place had a nice atmosphere and the food was very good and reasonably priced - we would definitely come back here again. Total $53.76 plus tip.

At some point in the evening, Neil had his Dutch Apple Pie doughnut with some wine, and I was now trying to finish off my Seagrams cocktails and pretzels with only one full day left.

Day 13 - Wednesday 13th November 2019 - Perkins & Millers Ale House

It was our last full day today, and being Wednesday it was also BOGO day at Perkins again so that’s where we headed for breakfast. It was on our way anyway, as we were heading to park up at Disney Springs before visiting some Disney resorts. No menu pics as I’ve posted some earlier in the report.

Neil ordered the Ham & Cheese Omelet (A traditional favourite of diced grilled ham and American cheese. Served with three buttermilk pancakes. No sides.), and asked for his pancakes to be on the side so he could have them with jam afterwards.

I had the Build your Own Breakfast (Start with two large, farm-raised eggs then choose one item from the list below (see pic) with turkey patties, which were highly seasoned and spiced (a bit strange for breakfast), breakfast potatoes and the 2 eggs over easy. We both had coffee to drink of course, and I had my favourite banana nut muffin. The total bill was $23.62, but with our BOGO coupon we only paid $15.02 plus tip.

We didn’t stop for any food during our resort visits or on the way back to the villa, as we wanted to get back in time to check in for our flights tomorrow. Once we had done that, we had some soft drinks, and I finished off the last of our Krispy Kreme doughnuts with my strawberry one.

We couldn’t decide where to go for tea as I wanted to try somewhere new, and Neil didn’t in case we ended up with somewhere we didn’t like for our last meal, so we eventually agreed on Millers Ale House as a compromise as we hadn’t visited there this trip, so it was new in that sense, but we had eaten here on previous trips and enjoyed it.

We were seated within a couple of minutes, and ordered drinks to start. I had the Pineapple Mango Mojito (Made with Captain Morgan Pineapple Rum, muddled pineapple, mango puree, lime juice and fresh mint, topped with Sprite. I really enjoyed this cocktail, so fresh and fruity - one of the best ones I’ve had. Neil had Coke. I also got a glass of water, which seems to be the trend now, as we were given this every time we ordered an alcoholic drink.

We had a while to look at the menu as our server was a little slow to come over, but when he did we ordered a starter - Mozzarella Planks (Seasoned breadcrumbs, golden fried, marinara sauce). Neil enjoyed these but I found them to have an oily taste so I only had 2 and left the rest for Neil to finish off.

Neil had Zingers (A Miller’s Ale House original for 30 years: our fresh, never frozen, buttermilk-drenched, hand-breaded, boneless chicken tenders). This came with celery and a dip. Neil asked for sour cream rather than the traditional American dips, but they brought him Ranch first before bringing out the sour cream after he reminded them.

I chose Cajun Chicken Pasta (Blackened chicken breast, sauteed mushrooms, Roma tomatoes, scallions, spicy parmesan cream sauce, fettuccine, toasted garlic bread). I have to say this wasn’t my favourite meal of the holiday. The chicken was tasty and not too spicy, but I found the sauce too cheesy and the garlic bread was really hard. Total $44.75 plus tip.

Once home we finished off the wine, bottled cocktails and some of our other snacks.

The loaded potato skins look really tasty, well done on remembering you had a holiday phone with you nice that they were free in the end! Another fab photo of Neil with his drink, cider this time rather than beer.

It sounds like you've had a real foodie time with all the lovely breakfasts mostly seeing you through to the tasty dinners.

The loaded skins really were very nice, they were gone in no time!

We didn't need many lunches at all... you're right, the large breakfasts were seeing us all the way to dinner. The days we did have lunch it was just for the sake of it really.

Just caught up with this. Some fantastic favourites and some really great new ones to try in the future.

Also like the fact you have our favourite drinks White Zinfandel (although DW prefers the Beringer) and Bud Lite Lime. There is also a Bud Light Orange which was recommended by one of the staff at Publix but I never managed to try it. Another reason to return.
