The 260 Mile West Coast Wander - August 2019 - Day 5 - From New York to Venice!

INDEX

Thursday 8th August

After a really good night’s sleep on those super comfy beds both Scott and I were awake and then up for 9am. Wasn’t long after until the kids woke up then - washed, changed sun lotion applied we were all set for the day.

We had some coffees from the café downstairs but we nipped into the CVS just up from us and bought some fruit parfaits, breakfast sandwiches and a big bag of mixed fruit.

I know it was a bit cheeky of us but we sat on some comfy chairs in Crystals shopping area and ate our food there.

Today we had a bit of a plan and that was to have a walk around the Venetian so we walked back out onto the strip. All our legs were feeling fresh so we had no problems walking up there. We kept popping into the other resorts to get a bit of aircon as it was really hot today.

Wow again we were blown away with this resort the detail was amazing it’s so hard to think that it’s a hotel.

We soon went inside and that was even more impressive the details were amazing. You have to keep reminding yourself it's an actual hotel.

Of course we had to see the Gondola’s again it doesn’t seem to register that this is just a hotel. Don’t think the kids originally believed me when I said there was a indoor version of the Grand Canal there.

We stood and listened to gondoliers singing for a while they were really good and lots of people were enjoying their rides on the canal.

We had a wander around the shops again it felt so authentic we only really needed the pigeons to make us feel like we were really back in Venice.

Another reason for us visiting here was because Poppy wanted to go to the Cake Boss shop. It took us a little time to find it as we kept getting lost walking around as we found the sign’s to be a little confusing. We got there in the end and Poppy was very excited to be finally trying a Cake Boss cake!

Of course Hayden and Jamie chose a cake too and we left the shop we walked round to the Grand Canal and found a nice spot to sit down and eat the yummy pastries.

We had another walk around the Grand Canal Shoppes and looked in quite a few of them. There wasn't anything that really took our fancy but we'd had a great time exploring.

WE used the restrooms before making our way of the resort and continuing back down the strip towards our Hotel. Again it's amazing seeing the different hotels there really is so much choice.

Stopped off at the Miricale Mile for a look around but there really wasn’t anything we were wanting so we didn’t look for long. We did stop off for a Subway for our lunch and then had a look in the Coca Cola stop. It was really busy in there so we soon left as the kids weren't that keen on it being so full.

After that our last stop was the M&M store, we enjoy walking around in here and both Poppy and Jamie enjoyed their bags of M&M’s that they bought.

Back at our resort we decided t have a bit of a chill so we decided to go down to the pool for a while. There was a really good atmosphere down there with lots of music and lots of young adults enjoying themselves but nothing too rowdy and still family friendly. The pool isn’t particularly big but it was good enough to suit our needs and it cooled us down a treat.

What I did notice straight away was the helicopters’, we must’ve been on the flight path for the tours or something as literally every 5 minutes a helicopter set off and flew over our hotel. Unreal the amount of flights there were.

It was also fascinating seeing the coaster zoom past, not a sight you see everyday a roller coaster running through your hotel!
I laid in the shade and caught up with my journal, we had a nice couple of hours there.

View from our room

Once we’d all showered and changed we went to the roller coaster as Hayden and Jamie wanted to ride it. We found the entrance, which was through the arcade and much to our surprise there wasn’t really a queue.
I think it was $25 per person which I thought was a bit steep but then it is Las Vegas. I was just about to pay but then asked if we got a discount because we were staying here and he said yes so it cost $25 for both of them. Glad I asked!

I also read that you can get married on the roller coaster!

We couldn’t see Hayden and Jamie set off as they wouldn’t allow people past the pay booth but they soon came back. Both of them said it was the most uncomfortable roller coaster ride they’d been on the safety restraint really dug in and it wasn’t one bit smooth. But they absolutely loved it and couldn’t stop laughing about it. I was so glad that I didn’t join them

Now it was time for us to get something to eat. If I’m honest there were just too many choices of places to eat so when we stepped outside of the New York New York we spotted the Shake Shack and said we’d eat there.

We’d never been before and didn’t realise until we walked in that it was mainly burgers but of course the kids were delighted by this and didn’t want to look for somewhere else. Still it was quiet and we ordered our food and we were able to sit out on the strip to eat. It was such a lovely evening.

Poppy and Jamie had a frozen yogurt afterwards this place was located just inside our resort and Poppy had loved it the last time we visited in Orlando. We sat back outside on the tables there and watched Las Vegas light up.

We decided to walk the opposite way tonight so we crossed over the bridge to the Excaliber to get the monorail over to Mandalay Bay. It didn’t really appeal to us much in there the shops were ok but it seemed like we walked through a large area of the casino to get to the shops. It also felt a bit remote still it was good to have a visit and a little look around.

Stopped off at the Luxor for a look there, amazed at the detail again but I was glad we’d stayed at the New York New York after seeing these resorts the character of hotel suited us.

Once back Poppy wanted to go in the arcade again, like the previous night Hayden and Jamie wasn’t interested so we just took Poppy in. She enjoyed going on the arcade games and rides and it was surprising how many games you could go on for $10.

We were back in our room for 10pm so not too late at all. My hips had been fine all day and Poppy didn’t complain about tired legs either. We’re used to walking but I think we needed to get used to been on our feet for a long length of time.

Tomorrow we would be heading out to Bishop via Death Valley, couldn’t wait to see what that place had to offer.

Thanks for sharing, we are staying at The Palazzo for 5 nights in August so I was really interested in your visit to the Venetian. Also can’t wait to have a look round NY NY and Paris hotels 😊

Lovely photos, your report is making me excited for my summer trip.

Can I ask if you booked the hotel directly or weather you went through an agent? Also I keep wondering about laundry, how did you guys manage with so many stops?

Thanks so much for sharing.

The girls all had the frozen yoghurt in the hotel, with all the treats on top. They still talk about it now as it was so good! I think it was Scarlett who managed to drop hers all over the floor!
Another great day, it's certainly tiring walking the strip! Loving this report xxx

Great that the pics are getting you excited for your holiday, still got loads more to share.

I booked through expedia as they were the cheapest. I kept checking the price and re booking when it went down. I just showed the email to NYNY when we arrived. I tried to book a few places with laundry facilities so we could do a few washes. Didn't go quite to plan though

That's so lovely how they recall things from their trips. The yogurt is so good good though and it's hard to resist all those toppings. Oh no poor Scarlett!

You just don't realise how much walking it is to get to places! All good fun though

Thanks for reading along Nicky xxx

Your pool time sounds delightful and well deserved! Fancy a roller coaster passing by you at the pool - sounds fab. I remember that ride being so uncomfortable i thought your boys may say that! Nothing to the Florida ones, but fab experience.

Shake shack sounds yummy. How were your cake boss cakes? The ones we had in Times Square a few years back were soooo disappointing x
