5-week Split Stay in Florida, Feb/March 2020 - Day 18: Hollywood Studios

Day 18: Hollywood Studios
February 27, 2020

[-- Trip Index --]
The rain last night had brought a cold snap with it. It was only 8C when we woke up, and had warmed up to 11C by the time we left the room. However there was a very cold wind blowing, so especially out of the sun it felt a lot colder than 11! We layered up again with leggings, hoodies and jean jackets over our summer dresses, but it honestly wasn't really enough - this is another day I was wishing we'd packed coats! Feb weather in Florida is SO unpredictable!

Aside from the weather, this morning we changed our morning routine a little. The past few mornings there'd been some annoyances as it's impossible for me to get my work done and get ready with Myla all over me. So this morning, Michael got himself sorted, and I got Myla dressed as soon as she had her breakfast. He was taking her out of the room to give me some peace and quiet for work and to finish getting ready. He'd planned to take her to the playground in Congress Park, but it was honestly too cold for that, so he took her to the lobby instead. They have a little kids corner, with cartoons on a big TV and lots of coloring in. When they returned 40 minutes later, Myla gave me a beautiful coloring-in page she did of Mrs. Incredible and I was nearly done and ready to leave. We were all a lot more relaxed than the past few mornings!

We caught the bus at the Grandstand for 8:50 and were at Hollywood Studios for 9:10, and we couldn't get over how cold it was! It actually was nice ish in the sun, but there was a strong super cold wind and it was freezing in the shade. It was super busy everywhere as well! Myla and I waited for a few minutes outside the Skyliner station as Michael went for another toilet break.

We were in the park 10 minutes later, and since our first FP wasn't for another 2 hours, we let Myla pick what she wanted to do first. That was a no-brainer for her - she picked meeting Toy Story characters! So we made our way down to Toy Story Land. It was very very busy everywhere - the park had been open since 7 or 8 that morning for Rise Of The Resistance boarding passes. We'd decided ahead of the holiday to not stress about those - if it suited and we happened to be up early enough, we'd have a go at getting some, but if not, we knew we were coming back in September and figured we'd just do it then. Very much regretting that now we know there's a big chance our September trip won't happen due to corona!

Myla absolutely loves Toy Story Land. I think I would enjoy it a bit more if it didn't always feel so crowded! This area I think is a lot more enjoyable late at night when it's less busy - however, with our 3-year-old, late nights are just not practical, she fares MUCH better on a decent night sleep. We didn't see a single fireworks show in the park this year - I'm hoping when she's a little older, we can do more exploring after dark!

We came across the Buzz Lightyear queue near the entrance to Toy Story Land, so we joined that one first. Michael and Myla stayed in the queue while I walked back to Pixar Place to get a hot chocolate and cinnamon roll for myself, and a coffee for Michael. The queue took about 20 minutes, and we saw the Green Army Men come by!

When it was our turn, Myla had her autograph book and pen all ready - turns out Buzz doesn't need a pen, he has a special stamp! Myla didn't actually understand that and kept trying to give him the pen lol!

Then I showed her the stamp in her book, and she got it and was laughing at Buzz' amazing special stamp!

Then we joined the queue for Woody and Jessie. That ended up taking 40 minutes, one of the longest queues we had all trip! And it was mostly in the shade. And in the full cold wind. So I was absolutely freezing by the time it was our turn! Myla sat in the stroller out of the wind for most of it, but damn, the temperature really made it not enjoyable. Michael nipped out for a bit to get a popcorn refill while we waited.

When it was finally our turn, it was a great meet though! They took their time with Myla, and made a big fuss of her and my dresses, to Myla's delight!

Now it was time for our Toy Story Mania fastpass - a good ride we always enjoy, it’s fun shooting the little cannons and trying to get a better score!

Myla helped me shoot my one - I don't think we did too badly against Michael! He always wins anyway, but usually with a much higher margin!

Myla got the important job of putting the glasses back in the bin!

Our next FastPass was for the Beauty and The Beast show. We were a bit early, but made our way over anyway, and found a nice sunny spot to sit and warm up, and I browsed the shops for a bit.

We headed into the theatre just after 12:30.

The show itself was good as always, Myla really loved this and was so annoyed at Gaston for taking Belles book and not giving it back!

We were getting hungry for food now, but we only had half an hour until our next FP, for the Frozen show, opened up. We had our hearts set at eating in Galaxy's Edge and 30 minutes wasn't enough to do that properly. So we decided to just have a small walk through Galaxy's Edge, find where Docking Bay 7 was, then do the Frozen show and eat without rushing afterwards.

Michael is a big Star Wars fan, and we were both so curious to experience GE for real! Walking over was really cool, I loved the bit where it transitions from Hollywood Studios into Galaxy's Edge!

We were both amazed at the level of detail visible from the moment you step into GE. So cool and so well done!

We stopped for a Photopass picture, and as I bent over the pram to ask Myla if she fancied joining in, I saw she'd fallen asleep in the middle of eating her cookie! Oops lol!

So we left her be and took a photo together.

We basically just walked a little loop through Galaxy's Edge, marveling at everything but not stopping anywhere as we only had 20 minutes. This was great as a little taster though, and helped us figure out the layout!

We were back at Frozen just in time, and woke Myla up when we parked the stroller. She wasn't entirely happy at being woken from her nap, and sat looking a bit dazed once we got to our seats.

Once the show started, to my surprise she HATED it! Even the appearance of Anna and Elsa didn’t help, she said it was too loud and spent a lot of it with her head buried against my chest and her hands over her ears. She loved this last year. Maybe it was because she’d just woken up - who knows. Michael and I enjoyed it though, but we couldn't convince Myla to try it again the whole rest of the trip - she just refused every time saying it was too loud and she didn't want to do it. Oh well!

We walked into Galaxy's Edge, Myla actually seeing it for the first time, and headed back to Docking Bay 7 for lunch. It's really cool in here, it looks like a movie set or something! Because we were here around 3PM, it was quiet inside too, nowhere near as busy and noisy as everywhere else in GE.

We absolutely LOVED the food we had here - this was our favorite meal all trip. Michael and I had the Felucian Garden Spread, and Myla had the Peka Pasta Rings Youngling Meal with the sauce on the side.

Total came to $37 and was well worth it. We all polished our plates, even Myla! She tasted the sauce and said she didn't like it, but she did eat ALL the pasta, which is a first for her!

By the time we finished our late lunch, it was 15:30 so we headed back to the bus. It had been a long enough day, and anything else we might want to do, had big queues anyway.

We caught the Saratoga Springs bus around 4PM.

Once back at SSP, Michael took Myla for a walk to the playground at Congress Park while I did finished my daily work. He said the playground is really nice, overlooking the river. it's just a shame there's only 1 such playground in all of Saratoga - it was a good 10 minute walk from our room!

Unfortunately she only played there for 10 minutes or so, before she told Michael she needed to poop! She refused to go into any bathroom other than our room, so he walked all the way back with her. To her credit, she did hold it until she was back haha!

We were all still full enough from our late lunch earlier to not need dinner, so we just chilled in the room and watched TV until we all were ready for bed at 8:15. 😊 A nice and relaxing evening was just what we needed after some busy park days! This was our last full day at SSP - we agreed we'd loved staying here and would definitely come back, it was a shame we never got to try out the main Highsprings pool due to the weather as it looked like it'd be great!

Here's my little video from today:

Thank you for posting, sorry Myla didn’t like Frozen Sing-a-Long - maybe next time! Look forward to your next accommodation move and reading all about it.
