5-week Split Stay in Florida, Feb/March 2020 - Day 24: Hollywood Studios, Polynesian, & Epcot!

Day 24: Hollywood Studios, Polynesian, & Epcot!
March 4, 2020

[-- Trip Index --]

Today's quick movie:

After yesterday's early start, Myla woke at a much more respectable 7AM today. We did our usual morning routine of waking up in bed with coffees and breakfast once Michael was back from the gym, and I made some small changes to our plans for the day.

If you read yesterday's report, you'll remember we had a very disappointed and upset Myla on our hands when we couldn't go see Mickey on the replacement FastPass we had. Well, today we were headed for Hollywood Studios, so I planned to get there earlier than we otherwise would have, to be able to jump in the Mickey and Minnie meet queue at 9AM sharp. This meet had 40+ minute queues every other time we'd been in HS so far, so I figured that was our best bet at a small queue, and I knew it'd make Myla happy after last night. Michael agreed, and when I told Myla we were leaving early to see not just Mickey, but Minnie also, she was over the moon.

We got dressed and sorted quickly, and our room around 8:10. This was actually our first time taking the bus from the Poly, so we followed the signs to the bus stop and realized this is actually super close to our building too. A Hollywood Studios bus came soon, and we were in Hollywood Studios for 8:45AM!

We headed straight for Commisary Lane, and joined the small queue just before 9AM. Myla insisted on her Minnie ears this morning too, and she was super excited!

We saw Minnie first - what a sweetheart, and Myla told me this Minnie was a princess because of her dress!

Next up was Mickey - I'm in love with this wallpaper by the way!

Mickey was very impressed with the autograph book page having Socerer Mickey on it too!

Myla loved it, and was practically hopping out the door after giving Mickey a last kiss on his nose. We sat down in the shade outside for a minute to work out what we wanted to next, when a nosey squirrel came over to investigate!

Our next FastPass was for Slinky Dog Dash but it wasn't active for another hour, so we decided to slowly make our way to Toy Story Land via Galaxy's Edge, just taking in the atmosphere there. As it was starting to get pretty hot already, I changed Myla into her Star Wars dress, and we had a pee stop near Muppet Vision first. She was peeing on the toilet pretty well now, I was very proud of her for overcoming her fears.

We stopped for some Photopass pictures in front of the blue spaceship.

We just honestly can't get enough of the theming here. It's so funny - we didn't end up doing a single ride in here, and didn't visit a single shop...but it was so much fun to just walk around and soak it all in!

It was only 10:30 by the time we reached Toy Story Land but it was roasting in the sunshine, and we were all getting a bit hungry. I bought a banana for Myla, cinnamon roll for me, and Mickey pretzel for Michael at the Market beside Pixar Place for a total of $13, and we found a spot in the shade to eat our snacks.

When our FP for Slinky Dog opened, Myla still didn't want to ride it after her Barnstormer experience. I decided to ride it alone, so she and Michael waited beside the tracks for me to wave at me.

There was no one else in the FP queue so I basically walked right on! The CM pointed me to the first row - awesome! Behind me from the regular queue, came a mom and 2 kids, the mom to go beside me in the kids behind us. The girl said softly something to the tune of, "Oh I would have loved to ride the front row!", so I turned to the kids and asked if they wanted to swap with me. They looked to their mom, who asked me if I was sure, and I said yes definitely! I so remember being that age and going on coasters with my brother, and it always made our day if we got the front row. The kids were super happy and said thank you to me like a million times haha!

This was my first time riding Slinky Dog, and I loved it! What a fun little rollercoaster - I so hope we can convince Myla to ride this next time, I think she'd love it! I spotted Michael and Myla too while I was on it, and Myla loved waving to me. When I was finished, I asked Michael if he wanted to ride it, but he wasn't too fussed doing it alone, so we just left it.

Our next FP for Toy Story Mania wasn't open yet, so we decided to head into Pixar Place and see if we could get some more autographs for Myla's book. She loves the Incredibles movies, so was all excited when we saw the Edna Mode meet was open!

Then outside we ran into Mrs Incredible (aka Elastigirl) as well as Mr Incredible! I had no character pages for them as they only roam and you never know if you can find them, but luckily I'd included a few blank pages in her book for these types of chance meetings.

You'll notice the wardrobe change between Mrs and Mr Incredible. We gave her a fruit pouch as a snack, and she squeezed it too hard and got the apple/strawberry yogurt stuff all over the front of her dress.

After getting a popcorn bucket refill and hanging around Pixar Place for a bit, it was time for Toy Story Mania. It was very busy in Toy Story Land, so we were happy to have an FP, the standby was 65 minutes! So much fun every time, Myla loves the competitive aspect of it where we try to beat Michael's score! (we never do though lol - but since she can't read yet, she's convinced we win every time)

Next up I had a FastPass for the Frozen show. Myla also did NOT want to do this - she repeated that last time it had been SO loud and she didn't like it. A bit of a shame, but okay - no worries, we obviously weren't going to force her or anything! FP cancelled, I let her check the park map for what else she may want to do. She picked the Olaf meet 'n greet, which we hadn't done yet.

However, it was very hot now, 32C, the queue for this is outside with no air-conditioning, and was posted as 40 minutes. We were all sweating, the queue didn't seem to be moving at all. On top of that, Myla only wanted carried, and she blooming fell asleep in my arms! So Michael and I made the executive decision to leave it - the queue looked like it would take forever and we'd be back in HS to do this plenty more days.

However, Myla woke up just as I tried to lay her down in the stroller, and had a complete (to be expected) meltdown over now not hugging Olaf. She was over-tired, over-hot, and just not coping with any disappointment. She cried and cried as we left the park, completely inconsolable. I hated seeing this after she had a meltdown last night - normally she is SO even tempered for a toddler! I eventually got her calmed down on the bus with Youtube on my phone, and within minutes of being back at the Poly, she actually crawled into her own bed and fell asleep! Michael and I ate peanut butter sandwiches for lunch, and I finished my work for the day on the laptop.

Myla slept from 13:30 to 15:30, when Michael gently woke her to see if she wanted to go swimming. There were more cold days coming up, so we didn't want to waste any swimming time! Myla was all for it, and we persuaded her to try the Lava pool today! She played in the splash area first.

After a while she asked to go into the big pool so we joined her. Just LOVE the castle view from the pool!

We swam from 16-17, and then went back to the room to shower and change. It was such a nice evening, so we decided to head to Epcot for dinner, and check out the first day of the Flower & Garden Festival. We left our room around 17:45 and walked the short walk over to the TTC - so handy!

Monorail selfies while Myla was munching on left-over popcorn!

We were in Epcot for just after 18:00, and for World Showcase. The park was looking SO beautiful this time of the night!

We were early enough that princess Aurora was still out in France, so we joined the short queue.

She was soooo nice and wrote a little message in Myla's book. Myla loved meeting her, she was totally starstruck by how pretty this princess was haha. Aurora noticed her Sleeping Beauty themed dress and asked Myla if the fairies made her dress too, and Myla said, "Yes, I think Tinker Bell made it!" which made everyone around her laugh.

Hungry for dinner now, we decided on Katsura Grill in the Japanese pavilion. Michael got the veggie sushi rolls with a side of rice, Myla wanted plain rice, and I had the Teriyaki chicken. Total was $26 for dinner and it was all delicious!

We grabbed a table overlooking World Showcase. I just love it back here. It's so pretty and peaceful here on the hill, with such nice views and the lanterns are so romantic! Very fond memories of eating here with Michael a few times on our honeymoon, as well as last year, so we loved being back here again!

There was live music coming from the America pavilion, so we stood and watched the band for a while there, Myla dancing away on Michael's shoulders. We slowly walked back, stopping at various placed to admire the view and all the pretty lights. It was so relaxed, just walking where we felt like with no set plans!

We ended up in Canada listening to a live violin player band - I forget what they're called but they were awesome and Myla was loving them!

As we were all a bit tired still, we opted not to stay for the fireworks and made our way back to the monorail just after 19:30. However, just before we walked up the ramp, Myla announced she needed to pee very badly. I picked her up "hurry mummy I can't hold it!" she goes So I was near-running to the toilets with her, Michael following me at a distance with the stroller. As I ran in, I passed a couple standing outside the toilets but of course paid them no mind as I was in fear of getting peed on.

Michael, however, spotted right away the girl was wearing a very familiar dress, with the same print he had on his shirt! So he went up to her and said, "Nice dress!" She turned around to say thank-you and then noticed he was wearing the same one. She raised her eyebrows and said, "Oh! Rainbow Rules too?" and Michael was all, "Yes! That's us! My wife designs these!" Turns out she is Heather, a regular customer of mine - I recognized her name right away as she has a ton of our dresses! What a coincidence!

Meanwhile inside the toilets, we made it in time and Myla did a big pee on the toilet. When I came back out, Michael filled me in and I was soo excited to meet Heather. What are the chances, seriously! It was such a boost for me to see her wear our dress in real-life - she was so lovely to talk to as well, and we stood chatting to her and her boyfriend for ages! Michael took a quick photo in the horrible-toilet lights lol:

This chance meeting gave me such a boost, really lovely to have met her!

We eventually said our goodbyes and caught the monorail back to the TTC, and walked to our Poly room from there. Myla raced Michael down the hallway lol.

In bed for 20:50 and we were all asleep quickly after a lovely evening!

I'm glad you got to see Mickey and Minnie today. What a lovely surprise to meet one of your customers. I love your website, I only wish it had existed or I had found it when my children were little and still wanted to wear lots of character clothes.

We did slinky dog dash first. Was the best ride out of sdmt, barnstormer and sdd. It’s My youngests favourite as she’s too short for the others. Eldest loves everest.
Definitely do this I’ve first next time I think myla would love it
