5-week Split Stay in Florida, Feb/March 2020 - Day 26: Magic Kingdom & Epcot

Day 26: Magic Kingdom & Epcot
March 6, 2020

[-- Trip Index --]

Today's quick movie:

I woke up just after 7AM this morning with Michael beside me again - the small and crowded gym was annoying him enough that he skipped it again this morning and he wasn't happy about it.

Overall, the holiday was kind of starting to catch up with us, in a strange way. We were all a little more cranky than usual today, and probably really could have done with a break or rest day. That is what I originally had planned for today (a Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday). However, exactly like last weekend, the weather messed up my plans, and it was to be a lot cooler again. Today was only giving a high of 24C with clouds and a chance of rain, and tomorrow was even worse with a high of 19C! So my plans for relaxing at the hotel pool or water park were a no-go, it was just too cold, and we ended up just visiting the parks again as I didn't want to 'waste' holiday time by sitting in our room!

This is exactly what happened last Saturday, when I'd planned on a relaxed Blizzard Beach day and we ended up in Animal Kingdom after all because it was too cold. But, top tip: when you're doing this many park days in a row, even if they're as relaxed as ours tend to be (we're hardly ropedrop-to-fireworks people), it can just get too much. Michael was missing his daily workouts and some personal time to himself, Myla was having a tendency to cry or whinge at everything that didn't go her way (silly toddler stuff, like not getting her own shoe on properly, not being able to open a goldfish packet right away, wanting to push the elevator button but daddy had already pushed it, etc etc), and her whinging was starting to crack Michael up, mostly because he got NO break from it! At least I had some time to myself most days where I worked in peace and quiet, but he was with Myla 24/7 now that we were on-site, pretty much. But his cracking up then meant he was getting impatient with her, which only made her cry/whinge more (she's super sensitive to feeling like either one of us is cross with her at the moment), which then made me have to step between those two constantly to stop things from escalating to full blown shouting and crying. Which of course in turn was making me more cranky too!

At the time we didn't analyze it the way I am now, we were just ploughing on, but I totally see now that with this being our 12th consecutive park day, we just needed a rest, a break from Fast Passes and 'need' to go and do things (rides, autographs etc). Alas, we didn't stop and come to that conclusion at the time, so there's a few more blow-ups and break-downs than usual over the next few days!

We continued with our usual morning routine, had breakfast in the room with cereal and brioche rolls, and got ourselves ready for a Magic Kingdom day.

We left the room just after 9AM and headed for the monorail.

Monorail selfie!

We were inside MK for 9:20, nice and quick from the Poly! Since I'd originally planned a water park for today, we only booked today's FPs a few days ago, and I let Myla pick them all. Our first FP was for Enchanted Tales With Belle, so we headed to Fantasyland.

We walked there via New Fantasyland, and as we passed the Ariel ride, Myla asked if we could go on this too. It was a walk-on, so sure!

This was only a 10-minute detour and Myla loves it. We were at Enchanted Tales with Belle for 9:50, and didn't have to wait long to go on.

She was far less hesitant than last time, when she was really unsure and a bit clingy, not knowing what was coming. She knew what was going to happen now, and was far more into it. When they were picking kids for the different parts, I was helping Myla by enthusiastically doing the movements with her, and got promtly picked to be a suit of armor myself! 😂 Myla didn't get picked initially - she was just a touch shy, but the CM asked her if she wanted to be a plate once all the parts were given out, and she was very happy with this. The whole rest of the experience was hilarious and super cute, Myla was really into it!

At the end, Myla got to meet Belle, and this time she got the big hug she didn't get last time. This Belle was lovely and spent a lot of time with Myla, so cute!

Of course I had to get my own princess photo too!

This just goes to show how good it is to repeat things with kids this age - Myla enjoyed it far more the second time around, and so did we! 🥰

We then headed back to Main Street for something very exciting: meeting up with a good internet friend of mine! I've known Michelle for over 5 years online - if you follow any Disney blogs, you may have come across hers, she's known as the Disney Fashionista! I sponsored a review and give-away on her site years ago, and we just became friends from then on, she helps me with a lot of work stuff nowadays. In the 5+ years we've known each other, we never managed to meet up. She lives in South Carolina, and every time I was in WDW, she wasn't, and when she was in DLP, I wasn't! So today was finally the day - we were both in MK! As I finished Belle, she was on her way into the park to go to Uptown Jewelers to get a new exclusive Pandora charm that was released today.

Michael graciously offered to queue for coffee in Starbucks while I took Myla and we found Michelle in the shop - big hugs all around, she was so sweet and it was so lovely to meet her, and her friend Erin who was with her on this trip. Once Michael had the coffees and Michelle had her charm, we found a table to sit down at outside Plaza and chatted to them for over an hour! It was really nice and relaxed, Myla was being a star and we were all talking away like we'd known each other for years! Alas, further plans were looming, they had a Peter Pan Fastpass coming up and we had a Small World one at the same time. Before we said goodbye though, Michelle and I went for some castle pics together first!

Since our FPs were right across from each other, we headed off together, stopping in the Tomorrowland Terrace toilets on the way. Myla really took to Michelle - she's a pediatric nurse and SO great with kids! Myla insisted on washing her hands with Michelle instead of me, and asked Michelle to push her stroller haha!

We gave big hugs again saying bye to them, so nice to have met up! We had hoped to see Michelle one more time before she flew home a few days later but it wasn't meant to be. We also made plans to spend a whole day together on our next trip in September, doesn't look like that's meant to be either!

We continued on to our next FP for It's A Small World, a firm favorite of Myla's.

Time for a pee stop in the Tangled toilets.

And on to our third FastPass, Tomorrowland Speedway! We did this ride last year, or attempted to, and Myla hated it - she wouldn't even get in the cars and I had to carry her out of the ride without riding! So I was very surprised when she specifically asked to ride this today! She went with Michael, and absolutely loved it, helped him steer and everything lol.

Next up we decided to do some more autograph hunting, and started with Peter Pan! We found him near the Peter Pan Flight queue, across from the Tangled toilets. He was just about to take a break, but the CM told us he'd be back in 30 minutes. We decided to take that as a snack break, and just wait there. Myla sat and ate her snacks & popcorn in the stroller, Michael sat down beside it to eat his nuts. I did a mobile order for a vegan coleslaw hotdog at Casey's Corner, and was back in 15 minutes with my food, yum! Just before Peter Pan came back, we did a quick wardrobe change, as I had Myla's Peter Pan themed dress with me as a backup.

Once Peter Pan came back, we were first in line, and he was awesome! He was SO nice and friendly, chatting away to Myla and he left the nicest message in her book! Really really nice guy, you could just tell he loved his job!

Once we finished there, I spotted a short wait for the Donald and Goofy meet at Storybook Circus - as you may recall if you've been reading along, we forgot Myla's autograph book the day we did their meets originally, so we needed to go back a second time! It was only about 5 minutes, and they were so nice and cuddly as always! (and yes, there was another wardrobe change when she had spotted earlier I had this with me as the second backup dress - more in case she wanted to play in the Casey Junior Soak bit, but this works too lol!) She gave both a kiss on their noses, which made everyone laugh, so cute!

We browsed the Storybook Circus shop for a bit, and Myla tried on funny hats with daddy, just like she did last year LOL!

By now it was 14:30, with the Festival of Fantasy Parade starting at 15:00. Most days we'd been in MK so far, it'd been a bit too hot for our liking to stay for the parade, and we'd been in the pool at 3 most days, but today it wasn't hot enough to swim, so perfect time to catch it!

We walked down Main Street, and found a spot about halfway down. We had to wait around half an hour before it reached us, and I was admiring the pretty store fronts on Main Street in the mean time - so often you're just walking by these and not actually looking at them!

The floats were stunning as always, great dancers and entertainers too. Myla loooves parades, we'd definitely watch these more often if the timing wasn't right in our 'swimming' time haha!

We headed to the park exit, and decided to walk to the Contemporary Hotel, where we're staying on our next trip in September (this was before anyone had any idea of the park closures and general world chaos coming!). Michael wanted to see what the gym would look like, and we hoped Myla might doze off for a nap while we walked.

No luck on the nap front, Myla was wide awake. Inside, we headed up in the elevator and found the gym - it looked nice and big, so that was Michael happy! We stopped for a snack in Contempto Cafe too, Michael got a salad and I got a Mickey icecream. Myla picked the fruity Olaf icecream, but of course when she saw mine (even though I asked her repeadetly before ordering if she was sure!) she didn't want it anymore and proceeded to eat all of mine.

We caught the monorail back to the Polynesian, and Michael and Myla chilled watching TV and playing on the iPad while I did my work. We all had a freshen-up, and decided to go into Epcot for dinner, intending to try out some of the Flower & Garden festival booths, and we left just after 6PM.

It was a beautiful sunset tonight and I took a ton of photos from the Monorail!

We headed into the park around 18:45, and Myla asked if we could do the Finding Nemo ride. It was a walk-on and she loved it like every time.

We then went to find the Meet Mickey spot, as we hadn't seen him in Epcot yet. He's in the exit of the Pixar Shorts theatre, which is beside the Imagination Pavilion. Myla initially didn't want to go here - she kept saying she didn't want to see Figment and he scared her (see our earlier Epcot day). When I assured her we were NOT going into the glass pyramid but rather the building beside it, she was OK with it, and we were able to walk right up to Mickey, as there was no one else around!

We then headed into World Showcase, intending to just stroll around, but Myla was not in a great mood. She refused to sit in the stroller but didn't want to walk either, and only wanted to be carried. She's just too heavy for either of us to carry her for extended periods of time, and Michael was at the end of his patience and ended up shouting at her, which in turn brought on a total melt-down. I had to spend a good bit of time calming her down, and even though we bought the farmhouse vegan meatballs from the Trowel & Trellis stand, we didn't really have a chance to enjoy them and just ate them quickly as Myla was playing up so much.

I eventually took her into the Mexico Pavilion, where we did the Grand Fiesta Tour and that calmed her a bit.

We decided to forget the rest of our potential fireworks plans for this night, we were all just tired and maybe even having headed out again after the MK day had been a step too far. Myla really wasn't wanting to do anything, so we just headed back to the monorail.

All in bed for 9, it was a shame about our evening plans but you have to be flexible with a little one, and some more rest was definitely the better choice!

Yes you have to be very flexible with little ones and just go with the flow. Also you have been on vacation for quite a long time now. On the whole Myla has behaved brilliantly.

Yup, you're so right! Also I've added our little video of this day to the top post now.

You are right about needing to be flexible. You probably wouldn't have enjoyed yourselves even if you had pushed on with the fireworks plans.

It must have been lovely for you to meet up with your friends you hadn't met before but it's a shame that your plans to spend more time together didn't work out.
