Day 3 - Kusafiri Bakery, Sassagoula Floatworks & The Grand Floridian Cafe

Today was Saturday and we usually do AK on a Saturday due to historical EMH. The park was opening at 7.30am for regular guests and we wanted to be there sharp so planned to leave at 6.45am. In hindsight this was probably too late as we didn't arrive until 7.20am.
We'd had a muffin in the room and I'd bought some fruit in Walmart.

Sadly I kept forgetting I had this and it had to be thrown out after it expired.

Mid-morning we were ready for something else so headed to our favourite breakfast snack place at AK, Kusafiri Bakery. We got two colossal cinnamon buns to share and on a whim I decided I wanted to try the pistachio croissant so we shared that too.

I love these and they're a great size for sharing. Really you could share one between 4 but we were pretty hungry having been up so early. The croissant was really nice too and I'd happily get this again. We had sat at the tables over at Tamu Tamu refreshments where there was loads of space in the shade. This is a great place to sit and we relaxed here for a wee while.

We'd been up so early we managed to get loads done and were finished by lunchtime so headed back to the resort. We decided to have a lazy afternoon and just ate at the food court again. We took this back to the room to eat.

Marie got the pulled pork burger (sorry for the rubbish picture).

Mum got the kids chicken pasta which was still a bit too much for her. It didn't look like a kids portion!

Dad and I shared a cheese pizza and also got fries and salad.

This was all good. I really like Disney pizza. We did have some left over though because while you can buy it buy the slice it's almost the same price as a whole pizza (more on this later ).
We mobile ordered this and it cost $47 using the dining credit. Annoyingly the fries don't show as an option on the mobile order page so we had to queue up for those and pay at the till.

We also had a slice of the cookies and cream pie.

I had booked dinner for both Saturday nights in resort restaurants on the basis that both parks and DS can be busy on a Saturday. Tonight was the Grand Floridian Cafe where we had planned to eat our last night the last time we came with Mum & Dad but there were issues so they didn't get to try it.

Our server here was lovely, bubbly and friendly. Marie got a Grand Colada cocktail and the rest of us a pomegranate lemonade.

Mum decided she wanted some soup and as with the dessert thing, I can't see someone eat an appetiser and not have something (I really need to get over that ). I chose a salad though .
We were brought some bread rolls to start (the sign of a classy restaurant!).

The soup was Loaded Baked Potato soup .

Mum says this was really nice. Unfortunately I can't remember how the server described it and didn't write it down. I remember bacon?
I chose the apple salad which was really nice but too much and I didn't finish it.

For main courses Dad and I got the lobster burger.

This was really nice although I didn't love the chips, they were fine but I prefer skinny fries.

Mum and Marie got the Buttermilk fried chicken.

Again they enjoyed this but Mum couldn't finish hers after having the soup.
I didn't make a note of the cost but I'm guessing about $170 or so plus tip. I was able to pay for it using the dining credit but this time had to follow the server to a wee cubby hole with a till in it!

No dessert tonight as we were too full!

Day 4 - Sassagoula Floatworks & The Cheesecake Factory

Today was supposed to be a rest day but ended up as a bit of a nothing day. Mum wanted to go to church and because Dad and Marie had found different Mass times and Mum didn't know who to believe (Marie) she wanted to arrive at the church in plenty of time (an hour early). Marie and I were going to go to the outlets which are next to the church and meet Mum & Dad after.
Marie and I had a muffin early on but about 9.30am decided to walk over and have breakfast at the food court. We both got the bounty platter.

This was not good and we didn't get it again.

While Mum & Dad were at Mass we did some shopping. While in the Tommy Hilfiger store we saw they had a Joffrey's coffee place so stopped for a drink. They had pistachio latte advertised so I said "ooh pistachio latte, I wonder what that's like" and the guy started making it . I just went with it. Marie got just a normal latte. Of course this is the US so mine was cold. And not nice. It was too bitter.

After a fair amount (2 1/2 hours) of hanging about and faffing about at the outlets we met up with Mum and Dad about half 1ish. By now we all wanted lunch and Mum decided she wasn't too bothered about shopping now and we'd just come back another day. I remembered there was a new Cheesecake Factory nearby so we headed there in the hope of a walk-up. We had about a 20 minute wait but that was fine.
They brought us some lovely bread.

I could've ate all the brown ones!

I ordered fish and chips.

Marie got the macaroni cheese balls and a side of fries.

Mum and Dad got the lunch special of half a sandwich, soup and a salad. Mum got turkey and Dad chicken. I only have one picture.

I got a mango lime cheesecake to take away.

Mum and Dad got caramel pecan turtle to share and Marie a tiramisu (not cheesecake) but I didn't get pictures, sorry .
We enjoyed the Cheesecake Factory and will definitely try and go back on an outlet day.

We'd had such a late lunch we didn't really need any dinner. We headed to DS via the boat to maybe get an ice cream but when we arrived it started to rain. We eventually got round to Swirls on the Water for a Dole whip but they only had the habanero lime. Apparently they couldn't get an order in because of the storm so didn't have the stock. We ended up with a bottle of lemonade/Diet Coke/sprite from Goofy's before heading back to the resort. I ate the remains of my food court salad from the day before and some of my cheesecake.

Day 5 - Yak & Yeti & Chef Art Smiths Homecomin'

Today was planned as AK but Mum and Dad decided to have a proper rest day so it was just Marie and I. We had our usual muffin in the room and headed out in time for our Lightening Lane selections.
After we rode Flight of Passage we passed Pongu Pongu and I was reminded that they had something I wanted to try so we both got a Night Blossom and shared French toast sticks.

I liked this but Marie wasn't too impressed and didn't really like the flavour.
As a side note we brought our own reusable straws which made drinking slushies like this much easier than the paper straws.

With the two of us left to our own devices there was only one option for lunch. We went to Yak & Yeti which was busy. Even with the Landry card we waited about 15 minutes for a table.
We ordered the Wok Fried Green Beans to share.

Marie ordered the burger and got a bit bamboozled by the server who talked quite fast and asked if she wanted mushrooms and gouda. Marie couldn't remember how it came and just said yes. It turned out to be an addition that she probably didn't want.

I ordered the beef kabobs from the specials menu.

These were nice but a warning about the specials menu if you're on a budget - there are no prices and they tend to be at the higher end of the price range. This cost us $84 before tip including a Sprite, a Shanghai Lemonade and 99c for gouda! Annoyingly I forgot to give her our Landry card and we would have spent enough over the trip to get a $25 reward. As it is I have one but won't be able to use it.

Dinner was booked for Chef Art Smiths Homecoming'. Marie and I had eaten here years ago and never repeated it. At the time I thought it was just fine so wanted to give it another go.
Marie, Mum and I got the Famous Fried Chicken.

Dad got the Shrimp Cocktail appetiser and shared Mums chicken.

I also got a slice of Hummingbird Cake to take away as I really enjoyed it last time. Mum got the donuts but I don't have a picture.

This was fine. Again I wasn't particularly blown away. The chicken was nice and I enjoyed it but not sure I get the hype for this place. We were able to pay with the dining credit by the server writing down the number. We had loads of chicken left so took it to go.

When we got back to the resort Marie wanted beignets and I couldn't pass that up so decided the cake was for tomorrow .

Flying from Edinburgh is so much easier for us than Glasgow and infinitely better than indirect. I just wish they'd have better flight days. I'm hoping prices next year aren't so high that we need to go indirect .

We definitely did get some other great dining experiences!

Day 6 - Polite Pig & Sassagoula Floatworks

This was our first Epcot day of the trip. It's not our favourite park but with Flower and Garden on we wanted to do it a couple of times. We aimed for early entry at 8am and had the usual breakfast in the room.
Mum and Dad hadn't had any food so by mid-morning we decided to head for a snack. Sunshine Seasons was closest but didn't have much so we walked on to World Showcase aiming for Les Halles in France. The queue was enormous so we changed our mind as our LL for Ratatouille was pretty close. Instead we rode Ratatouille and continued on round the world looking for somewhere suitable.
We were in America before we actually found anywhere suitable. It was one of the Joffrey's stands with donuts etc. I'm never very sure what these American pastries are called but I think maybe they were crullers and bear claws? The menu just says "pastries".

I chose the Wildberry Wonder Refresher and an apple pastry that may or may not be a bear claw.

Everyone else got the thing that may or may not have been a cruller.

Mum and Dad got a latte and Marie got an iced latter of some description.

We sat over at the Regal Eagle tables as it wasn't open yet. This was really nice and next time we'll know just to head for one of these stands! My drink was refreshing but the flavour wasn't very strong.

We popped in to Club Cool to try some of the new flavours. It was quite busy so I didn't get any photos. We managed to try most of them, including the bbq one that no one likes. I actually thought it was quite nice if you tried not to also smell it.

After another early start we left the park around lunch time and headed to DS. Polite Pig wasn't busy so we just went there. We got a bit of a mixture of sides and appetisers. Marie and I shared the slider trio, waffle fries and macaroni cheese. Mum and dad shared waffle fries and Mac and cheese. I also got the crispy Brussels sprouts.

The waffle fries and macaroni cheese were really nice. I'd definitely go back for those. The Brussel sprouts are my attempt to have some veg on holiday and while they definitely improve sprouts they are still after all sprouts. The sliders weren't great. They were Southern Pig, low and slow brisket and fried chicken. The brisket was a bit fatty and the others were just ok.
I still really like Polite Pig though and next time would just choose differently.

Back at the resort Marie and I headed to do some laundry and spend time at the pool. While we were waiting for the driers we got a drink from the pool bar. I think it was a Lava Smoothie.

For some reason I don't have pictures of dinner. We went to the food court again. Mum and Dad shared chicken strips and wanted bread to have a chip butty but they only have it out at breakfast. I ended up buying a loaf from the shop and Marie had to ask in the food court for butter. Marie went for the chilli bowl and I got some salad and fries and had the chicken leftover from Homecomin'. Waste not want not! I'm sure we probably had pie or something too!

Day 7 - Woody's Lunchbox & Saltgrass Steakhouse

We had DHS planned today as it was Star Wars day and had wanted to get there early however we decided in the end we would just go based on whatever time we got our LL for. Mum wasn't feeling too great so she stayed at the resort and Marie, Dad and I went on our own. We had the usual muffin in the room.
In between Slinky and our TSM LL we had a bit of a wait and there's nowhere in Toy Story land to wait so we went for food at Woody's Lunchbox. It was still early enough for breakfast so Marie and I decided on the Breakfast Bowl which is potato barrels, scrambled egg and smoked brisket gravy. Dad was going to get the Three Cheese grilled sandwich but changed his mind when he saw someone else with the Breakfast Bowl so we had one each.

We'd had a few things on this trip that had been disappointing compared to how we remembered them. This wasn't one of them! These are so good!

We rode a couple of rides and then again found ourselves with a bit of a wait until the next LL slot so we went for a drink. We ended up at Dockside Diner where Marie wanted the Kaluha milkshake.

Dad and I ordered just a vanilla milkshake.

Yes, this is a milkshake apparently. I had to go and fill up my water bottle at the iced water dispenser they had plus get a drink for now. It was nice ice cream and Dad raved about it the rest of the trip but it wasn't a milkshake - yet.

When we got back to the resort we all went across to Scat Cat's for beignets and decided to sit in this time. Mum was feeling a bit better and had been for a walk round the resort. We got the 6 beignets for $10.99 and took a couple back to the room for later.

Marie wanted to go to the Lake Buena Vista outlet for one shop so I suggested we pop there and then go for dinner on the way back. Mum didn't want to come so it was just the three of us again.
We decided on Saltgrass Steakhouse as it was on our way. It's a Landry restaurant so I knew we wouldn't have a wait but it was pretty early and the restaurant was empty anyway. In fact we were early enough for the lunch menu . Marie and I went for the filet and Dad the sirloin. To be honest I couldn't tell the difference when they came out.
We got some bread to start.

Marie got a cocktail and Dad got a beer.

At saltgrass you get soup or a salad with your meal. We all got salad, Dad the house and Marie & I the caesar.

This is my steak - they all looked the same.

This was nice although it could have done with a sauce.
Overall it was good value for money but not the best steak I had this trip.

Mum still wasn't feeling great so we had a lazy evening.

Day 8 - Sassagoula Floatworks, Daily Poutine, Chicken Guy & Columbia Harbour House

The original plan for today had been an afternoon/evening at MK with Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner. I ended up cancelling the reservation as Mum still wasn't great and I reckoned a big meal like that would be wasted on her. To be honest none of us felt like we'd do it justice.
We still planned a late day though so went to the food court for breakfast. We took it back to the room as it was pretty busy. I only have a picture of my waffle breakfast as Mum and Dad only wanted toast and took some of the bread we bought and used that. Marie also had a waffle breakfast.

Marie and I went across to DS for some shopping and when we got hungry went to the Daily Poutine and split a Canadian. I also got a watermelon lemonade.

This wasn't as good as it used to be and I think it's a simple as the container it's in. Before it was in a deeper one so the chips at the bottom weren't soaked with gravy and were still crispy. The flat tray meant the gravy covered all the chips and they were soggy. It was the same chips, gravy and cheese curds so that's the only explanation I can think of.
While we were eating Dad texted to say they were headed to DS and did we want to meet for lunch. We had obviously just eaten but not a huge meal so we wandered over to where the boat docks near the Christmas shop and then decided from there where to go. We decided on Chicken Guy because we could get a snack or a meal depending on how we felt. In the end we split a Chicken Tenders meal between Marie, Dad and I and Mum got a chocolate milkshake.

We didn't eat here again which is a shame as I really like Chicken Guy and I didn't feel like we really explored the menu. Definitely on the list for next time.

We went back to the resort then got ready to go to MK, this time getting the bus. We rode a few rides and then decided that instead of waiting on a bench for us to ride 7DMT (Mum doesn't do rides) we would go to Gaston's and Mum could wait there. We all got a Le Fous Brew and Marie and I split the Donald Dome cake.

I hate to say it but the Le Fous Brew wasn't the same either. It didn't have the topping it usually does and just didn't really taste of anything. The Donald cake was really nice though. It was lemon and blueberry and lovely and light.

Dinner was Columbia Harbour House. I had the salmon with rice and green beans. This was nice but it could have used a sauce.

Dad got the shrimp skewer. He enjoyed this but thought it would be hot. It isn't, the shrimp is cold.

Marie got the chicken, shrimp and fish trio which I was a bit jealous of.

Mum got the clam chowder but I don't seem to have a picture. You can kind of see it in the background of Dads.

I always think Columbia Harbour House is a good choice at MK. It's a good menu and we always get a table no bother. Most of the options at MK for QS are pretty good though. Miles better than DHS.

Day 9 - Sassagoula Floatworks, The Boathouse and Sassagoula Floatworks (again)

We had originally planned Epcot for today but it was forecast to be hot and Epcot is not a great park in the heat. With Mum still not being 100% we didn't think it was a great idea and decided instead to have a shopping day. We had breakfast at the food court again.
Mum had toast, Marie had the waffle breakfast and Dad and I had the breakfast bagel with bacon and egg. That's the only picture I have for some reason. We sat outside and ate.

We were done at the outlets by lunchtime so went to DS. I thought we could try for a walk-up at the Boathouse because I'd seen lots of reservation times and reckoned they'd take us no problem. I was right, it wasn't that busy and we were seated straightaway.
They gave us some nice sweet & sticky rolls to start. These were nice but messy!

I ordered the lobster bisque to start but everyone else just had a main.

The last time we ate here I had wanted the filet mignon sliders but changed my mind and got fish and chips. I was not making that mistake again so got the sliders. Marie got these too.

These were really nice and I'm glad I made that choice this time!

Dad got the grilled fish sandwich.

And Mum got the coconut shrimp from the appetiser menu.

This was a really nice meal and I'm glad we gave The Boathouse another chance. I knew it was probably menu choice last time. Definitely on the list for next time and a good choice for a lunch walk-up as it's really big and has lots of tables.

We spent the rest of the afternoon shopping so just ate at the food court again. We shared a pizza, fries and salad.

There was also more cookies and cream pie eaten!

Day 10 - Kusafiri Bakery, Rainforest Cafe and Olivia's Cafe

Today was AK but we didn't plan to go for early entry. It was getting later into the holiday and early rising was harder. We set the alarm for 7am for LL but didn't rush to get up. We had breakfast in the room of a muffin and headed out to the park in time for our FoP LL at 10am. Mum & Dad weren't sure if they were coming so they stayed behind.

After we'd ridden FoP we realised we still had a bit of a wait until our next one at the safari so obviously that meant we had to go to Kusafiri for a cinnamon bun .

They changed the menu to lunchtime while we were waiting on our food.

Dad texted to say he and Mum were waiting at the bus stop so we went on It's Tough to be a Bug while we waited. They ended up taking ages as there were issues and they ended up on the POR bus. We met them at the entrance and decided since we were there Rainforest Cafe would be an option for lunch. We've had varying experiences here so were a bit apprehensive.
We used the Landry card and had about maybe a 10 minute wait. The restaurant was freezing!

As often seemed to be the case Dad and I got the same and Mum and Marie got the same.
Dad and I got the Rainforest Burger.

This was ok, a bit dry.
Marie and Mum got the quesadilla from the appetiser menu.

They enjoyed this.
Overall it was an ok experience and expensive for what it was. The restaurant was freezing and we had a bit of a wait on our food which made Dad grumpy. We ate there out of convenience and it's just ok.

Dinner was another resort restaurant for a Saturday night, Olivia's at OKW. We all have fond memories of OKW and Olivia's has always been a good choice.
Unfortunately we were sat in the side room next to a family group of about 20 people. They weren't being rude but just by the sheer volume of them they were loud. It wasn't the best experience we've had there. Usually it's really quiet and one of the reasons we chose it. Again I wish we'd asked to move but it would have seemed rude. Had we been in the main restaurant I think it would have been less noisy but we felt like we were imposing on a private party.
Anyway, on to the food. Sadly they'e changed their bread and no more pineapple bread. This was just ok.

I got a pomegranate lemonade to drink and I think everyone else got fountain sodas.

I fancied something different so choose the fish of the day which was mahi mahi with parmesan grits, crispy Brussels sprouts and a mango sauce.

This was nice. My first taste of grits and they weren't quite what I expected but I thought they were nice enough. I did get tired of them quickly though.

Everyone else got the buttermilk fried chicken and really enjoyed it.

Mum and Dad got a caramel apple tart to take away but Marie and I had pie to be having.

The food at Olivia's was nice but the experience not as relaxing as we've had before. I don't think it's put me off dining here again though.
As we left we saw Victoria from Disney in Detail just arriving. She was probably luckier than us as the large party were settling the bill at that point .
